[tex-k] About spaces in file names

Greetings,

We are in the process of porting LyX (www.lyx.org, a frontend to
    LaTeX) to windows

Happy to hear it.

Is this a known limitation of this spaces handling?

I haven't seen it mentioned before, for whatever that's worth (not much).

    Are there known workarounds?

I can't think of one off the top of my head, but maybe Olaf, Thomas, or
someone else knows more. I'll look at your test file as soon as I have
a chance.

Interesting. Shouldn't it be possible to even use braces in filenames,
if you reset the catcodes? (Admittedly this is not practical, but in
principle ...)

Have you reported the problems with the various dvi drivers to their
maintainers? It would be good to do so, if not. Since the quoting
stuff in Web2C is so new, it's not surprising that there are cases which
some of the drivers and/or engines aren't happy with.

On a related note, is there documentation on the status of 8bit
    characters in file names?

I'm not sure. I don't think I've written any, anyway :). If the 8-bit
characters are given the right catcode, it seems like no special
treatment should be needed? Is there a problem?

Thanks for writing,
Karl
