We can use a temporary file, like .aux, to write out the
page numbers.  (The funny part is, the document then might
require 4 (!) runs of TeX.)

  \hlopts{bstyle=S,bwidth=1}

will start producing the ugly boxed links.  Anyway, the doc
is coming any minute now.
