You play with words!  A dvi viewer is a program which can display a dvi 
file. In a dvi file, there is sometimes some \special command and the 
devi viewers are allowed to deal or not with that sort of extra code.

If I know exactly when that will be correct or not, I could use my dvi 
viewer. For instance, xdvi is not able to display correctly \rput{n}... 
(n \neq 0) and \uput... that's all (I think). The point is I haven't to 
process with dvips (time saved) :-)

That's right!  However, I believe that windvi is *much* better than yap. 
In fact that was true in 1995!
