[pdftex] Why does pdflatex needs pictures?

\usepackage{graphicx}
\let\oldincludegraphics\includegraphics
\renewcommand\includegraphics[2][]{%
   \IfFileExists{#2}{\oldincludegraphics[#1]{#2}}{\fbox{Bild nicht da!}}}
