[pdftex] Is it possible to retain existing bookmarks in documents that are being merged/inserted using pdftex?

I am writing to inquire if there is some way in pdftex to retain the
existing  bookmarks when inserting or merging PDF
documents using a package like pdfpages.

If there isn't, could this be added to the list of features requested
in a future release of pdftex.
