[pdftex] pgf and tikz

It doesn't work for me either.  I don't see anything unusual in the
log file before the error message appears.

All files it loads come from
   texmf-dist/tex/{generic,plain}/pgf
and 
   texmf-dist/tex/latex/xkeyval .

Maybe TeXLive-2005 provides an older version.
