[pdftex] How to get pdflatex to embed and subset ALL fonts?

Since 1997 I have compiled about 80...100 teTeX-versions (including
the betas, of course).  I always made a backup of the old texmf tree
and the bin directory when I installed a new version.  But I never had
to reinstall a backup.

... like article.sty in the early nineties. I remember.  It was
advantageous for everyone that "they" invented the LPPL.
