[pdftex] Re: shrinked widths in PDFs

Hi,

Forgive me as my post is not dedicated to pdftex only.
Consider the following latex source:

	$ cat test.tex
	\documentclass[a4]{article}
	\begin{document}
	\framebox[14cm]{this is a test}
	\end{document}

If I process this file using LaTeX -> dvips and print the postscript
result, I get a framebox that is exactelly 14cm wide. Then if I convert
it to pdf using ps2pdf, the box's width is around 13 cm.

Using pdflatex, the output is also shrinked to 13 cm. Do you know by
chance why widths are shrinked in PDFs, and if there's a way to avoid
this?
