[pdftex] extracting figures

I have a pdf file:  pdfinfo says:

It has various figures in it, one of which I'd like to extract to use in
a powerpoint presentation.  I've tried pdfimages, but doesn't extract
anything.  I've no idea how the original figures were made or what they
were.  Would I be right in thinking that unless they were png or jpgs I
won't be able to extract them?
