You may want to consider looking at the work being done on pdfsync.sty 
(for LaTeX) for use in TeXshop, iTeXMac, and other Mac OS X editing 
environments.

There was an up-dated version posted to the Mac OS X TeX mailing list 
recently, should be in the list archives for you to examine (but 
remember, it's pdflatex, though apparently a Plain TeX or ConTeXt 
version should be feasible).
