[pdftex] subsetting questions

in addition to the below answers:

1) with the default settings pdftex should subset every font, apart from
those that are not possible to subset (base fonts, pk fonts, truetupe
fonts without reencoding)

2) to use other ps fonts instead of cm fonts, have a look at the first
page of the psnfss manual.
