since he refers to e-commerce i guess that his interest is mostly with html
-) 

anyway, i suppose that with html pages, he means flat docs with a minimum
of index/toc stuff and only using the elements that work for each browser
[which leave you little choice]; actually the only real good example of
html docs that is both browsable and printable that i know is the perl
documentation that comes with activestate perl. 

we should also keep in mind that for word users, producing valid, compact
and robust pdf is indeed a bit of a nightmare,
