Indeed silly. Probably a hack for prepress users who want to view
newspapers on screen. I played with it a bit because i though tthat i could
use it for other purposes, but there is a lack of control over this
mechanism [some aspects are undefined and left to the viewer, esp scaling
and offsets, which makes it kind of useless].
