[pdftex] Placing text in the page

I know that this is a question of TeX and not of
pdfTeX, and I shouldn't ask it here, but I do not know
where to ask.

I would like to know how to place text in an arbitrary
place in the page, for example something like a
\parbox that is 34cm from the top margin, and 25cm
from the left margin. That would be very useful for
me.
