[pdftex] hyperindex points to wrong page

I have read in the hyperref manual that hyperindex is a sensitive thing, but so far I only have one entry in the index, for testing purposes. 

The hyperindex link points to the absolute page (e.g. page 3 of 45, which has pagenumber iii) of the document instead of the page with pagenumber 3.

Is this a known problem?
