[omega] [(nowhere)] special infestation of Omega

This is a digest of start and (unresolved) end of a thread on the
teTeX mailing list, since the "problem" occured in connection with the
Omega placed in teTeX-3.0.

Well, it is an Omega question, so where to take it but the Omega list?
No, I did not add any options to the call of Omega; that's why I have
been surprised at that behavior.
It would obviously be helpful to know what specials may arise when
Omega ist used. However, fully catering for Omega would probably mean
catering for its fonts as well: while Omega has some useful primitives
and mechanisms even without using the 16-bit fonts, current users of
it tend to exercise its font capabilities, I guess. I believe that
xdvi and dvips by now have this font support built-in (which was
previously in the branches or separate projects oxdvi and odvips): the
links oxdvi and odvips have merely been added into teTeX-3.0 at my
request so that AUCTeX would not break when used with Omega (it
assumes odvips and oxdvi are available as executables).
I don't really know what proper Omega support for DVI processors means
for the Omega executables "in the wild" right now (which would be
current Aleph as well as Omega 1.23). Any whitepapers or similar
available?
