Stephen,

It seems probable that the term "PostScript font" of
the manual modification draft at

http://home.arcor.de/stephanhennig/Downloads/metapost/mpman-glyph.pdf

really means "Adobe Type 1 Font". The Type 1 font
format is a subset (and extension) of the
Post-Script language, with its own syntactical
rules.

There are many other sorts of fonts known to the
various PostScript interpreters; see the PostScript
level 3 reference manual.  Which if any of those mentioned
there are currently accepted by the new "glyph"
primitive of metapost?
