One writer suggested using Time Machine to revert to the earlier version of TeXLive.
No. The suggestion was much, much simpler.
Go to the Configure menu in TeX Live Utility. Select the item "Change Default TeX Live
Version." You will see a list of TeX distributions on your computer. No doubt one is
titled TeXLive-2023, and is selected. But your old distribution will also be there.
Select it instead.
You have returned to the original distribution before you updated. Typeset. I bet
your problems have gone away.
If so, you can relax. Then switch back to TeX Live 2023 and fix the problems you
ran into due to the TL update.
