[OS X TeX] TeXShop and biblatex

Success! Cleaned up my /Users/me/Library/texmf folder per Richard’s suggestion, then worked with the MWE Ulrich kindly sent. He had a command <% !TEX TS-program = pdflatexmk> at the head of his TeX file I didn’t, but when I added that to my file I got a different error (post clean up). I was able to chase down a solution to that error, viz., install Xcode.app. Did that and everything worked beautifully, with both my and Ulrich’s MWE.
Thanks to all. Now I can get back to the proposal.

Several of your style files are in /Users/me/Library/texmf rather than in the TeX Live distribution. Using this
location for duplicates of files in TeX Live is dangerous because they are used first and can become out of
date when TeX Live is updated.
Please experiment by disabling such files if duplicates are in TeX Live.
