MacTeX can't remove the prefpane, though; even if technically possible, it would be really unexpected for most users.

This is my problem, not Dick's; I'll think about the name.
It is, of course, described in TLU's Help book, which I expect no one has ever read.

One package (gpg) gets installed from Norbert's repo. It is not part of TeX Live; this is a one-time installation. No other packages are available there, and you should forget that it exists.
