[OS X TeX] How tell MacTeX 2016 about fonts in user tree?

Certainly not ``unconditionally''! :-) (Also, Dick should NOT put that into the MacTeX install script!!! That would produce a global map file in ~/Library/texlive/YEAR/texmf-var behind the user's back and, from then on, TLU would HAVE to run `updmap`. The philosophy of MacTeX not touching the HOME folder is correct.)

Running

updmap

(NO `sudo`, NOT `updmap-sys) ONCE in the lifetime of the distribution is not a big deal AFAIC.

PS: If you place your personal fonts in /usr/local/texlive/texmf-local you still have to run `sudo updmap-sys` ONCE in the lifetime of the distribution after installing MacTeX/TeX Live.

PPS: Of course either of these simple methods really only work if you install fonts using an updmap.cfg file as described in the `TeXLive2014+Changes.pdf' document available zipped at <https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/10932738/index.html>. Otherwise you need to install each map file separately.
