My one cent: a middle ground solution may be to write the "logo" (\TeX, \LaTeX, etc.) in very few places (perhaps at the beginning), and otherwise use "latex" (or "LaTeX", but this already may become tiresome).

I like Michael's suggestion of using a macro such as \latex, as you may postpone your decision.
