[OS X TeX] In Help 2.46: Type ^{} and get ^}{

Up until a few months ago, I used to type ^ and get ^{} with the  
cursor between the curly brackets. And then, who knows what I did to  
cause this, starting one day when I would type ^, that is all I would  
get.

Today, now that I got 2.46, I thought I should try to figure out where  
would that macro be and typed ^{} in Help > Search but got  ^}{ ...  
and no help.
