I second this.

Now this is confusing: I first run update --all on x64-linux and when
I noticed a problem I did not update on darwin.

Still darwin (no update-tlmgr-latest.sh run) reports tlmgr --version

tlmgr revision 11305 (2008-11-16 00:23:32 +0100)
tlmgr using installation: /usr/local/texlive/2008
TeX Live (http://tug.org/texlive) version 2008
texlive-20080903

After getting update-tlmgr-latest.sh x64_linux reported 11150

I grabbed from tlcritical update-tlmgr-r11358.sh

running it returns
tlmgr --version tlmgr
revision 11340 (2008-11-18 01:58:41 +0100)
tlmgr using installation: /usr/local/texlive/2008
TeX Live (http://tug.org/texlive) version 2008
texlive-20080903

Should not it be 11358?

And even if real updates are run successfully it still reports an error

Use of uninitialized value in split at
/usr/local/texlive/2008/tlpkg/TeXLive/TLPDB.pm line 971.
update: dry run, no changes will be made
