I had the same problem when I used the i-installer's youngest
Ghostscript implementation, on my Tiger system. It appeared later
that this Ghostscript worked only for Leopard. Uninstalling i-
installer's Ghostscript and installing MacTeX's Ghostscript solved
the problem.
