[OS X TeX] superscripting

If Mr. Kowalski is going to use LaTeX, let's get him off on the right  
track:
Use \( ...somemath... \) instead of $ ...somemath... $
Use \[ ...somemath ... \] instead of $$ ...somemath... $$

There is a difference in how the display of the equations is handled  
in certain situations that I don't pretend to understand.
