The latter is an important aspect: Fink satisfies all dependencies a
package has by installing all missing software. In case of hevea
there are two: ocaml (to compile the source files) and a valid TeX
installation. The latter dependency can be satisfied by making Fink
install system-tetex, a name for MacTeX or gwTeX or TeX Live. The
former dependency is not so easy satisfied: X11 and libncurses are
needed. Again, the former can be Apple's X11, the latter requires
more packages. Trying to accomplish this job "by hand" can be rather
complicated.
To make work with Fink easier, not needing to work on the command
line, Fink Commander exists: http://finkcommander.sourceforge.net/

There's something the technicians need to learn from the artists. If
it isn't aesthetically pleasing, it's probably wrong.
