[OS X TeX] Acrobat 8 vis a vis Leopard with TeX produced pdf

The incompatibility of Acrobat 8 for Leopard requiring a patch  
prompts me to query about others' experience with both Acrobat 8 Pro  
and the Reader. On OS X  10.4.8 on a 1.5 G memory Dual G4, both these  
applications frequently become non-responsive  in handling LaTeX  
produced pdfs. What are the experiences of other users of these apps?
