The first line of the file is:
%!TEX TS-program = latex

The first line on the console are:
### This is /usr/texbin/simpdftex, Version $Revision: 2.18 $
### /usr/texbin/latex Essai.tex
This is pdfTeXk, Version 3.141592-1.40.3 (Web2C 7.5.6)
%&-line parsing enabled.

There is a first run of TeX, ended by
Output written on Essai.dvi (286 pages, 633044 bytes).
Transcript written on Essai.log.

Then there is a second run, beginning with

### /usr/texbin/dvips -R -Poutline -o /tmp/altpdflatex.
957-1193523574/Essai.ps Essai.dvi
This is dvips(k) 5.96 Copyright 2005 Radical Eye Software

followed by some font commands:
<tex.pro><8r.enc><texps.pro><special.pro>. <mt2syt.pfb><mt2mit.pfb>
<lttbi8a.pfb><mt2bmif.pfb><mt2bmis.pfb> [...]

and ending with

### Copying/moving pdf file /tmp/altpdflatex.957-1193523574/Essai.pdf
to Essai.pdf
### Succesfully generated Essai.dvi and Essai.pdf

The same problems arises when I use pdflatex, but there is no second
run, as the pdf files are made from the ps ones on the run, and no
error messages.

Same problem.

No, Preview gets stuck. In fact, Preview gets stuck avery time I
download a ps or eps file from the web.

Yes! See above.

I suppose everything comes with TeXLive + TeXShop.

Of course, there is a solution: to pixellize the image, using Photoshop.
