These are (and have been) included in Mac OS X for quite a while [the  
'pdf' variant seems new to 10.5].  You can find out what packages  
include such things with 'lsbom'.  These files are in the BSD package.

Package 'boms' are in /Library/Receipts.  The format (file structure)  
seems to change between major releases.

I think these come with gnu packages that use 'info' documentation.
