[OS X TeX] [off-topic] best font set for using Times?

I had the same problem. Here is Thomas A. Schmitz's reply to my post:

Now ---putting a modified texmf.cnf in ~/Library/texmf didn't work  
for me. I had to modify the one in /usr/local/texlive/2007/texmf/ 
web2c/texmf.cnf *and* rebuild formats.
