[OS X TeX] CM Super, Latin Modern

If I produce .pdf files using latex > dvips > ps2pdf, does it make any 
difference if I include lmodern in the following?

\usepackage[T1]{fontenc}
\usepackage{lmodern}
\usepackage{textcomp}
\usepackage{mathptmx}
\usepackage[scaled=.92]{helvet}
\usepackage{courier}

When I tried it with and without the \usepackage{lmodern}, in acrobat 7 I 
get identical font properties in Document Properties > Font

It is my guess that if the font sets differ, those differences might not 
be significant when it goes through gs.

  gs -v
