As far as I can tell these are loaded by the pdf driver for the
graphicx.sty package.

Don't use the graphic{s,x}.sty packages or don't work with pdf (use
the dvips route).

In terminal :
open -a TeXShop `kpsewhich supp-pdf.tex`
This will open the first file which is heavily documented. A cursory
read tells us that this file is giving pdf support and metapost->pdf
support.
