I think I found the silly bug. updmap.cfg.tl2006 was just plain  
missing from the dependencies list in the i-Package TOC. This also  
prompted me to notice another bug in many other i-Packages. I'll  
report separately.

The TeXLive i-Package has been updated and should work now.
