That may be the reason but I'm not sure. Try \cite{...} and see if  
that works; you can change the \cite to \citet later for now. If that  
seems to be the problem you can enter a bug entry (they are very  
responsive on bugs/feature requests) at <http:// 
bibdesk.sourceforge.net/>.
