[OS X TeX] A question from a new member

\cite and \citet should both work.

Have you told Bibdesk to load a default bibliography? This is set via 
Preferences|General|Application Launch|Open File

Maybe if Bibdesk doesn't have a .bib file loaded then it will not have 
any autocomplete information to work with. Oh, and make sure you have 
actually added TeXShop to the list of applications that should use 
BibDesk's cite-key autocompletion - Preferences|Completion.
