This is certainly in accord with Companion 2ed and equally certainly not 
the way I am using Showidx and this for the reason I  gave earlier, 
namely that the students I am writing for (who include women ;-) ) don't 
have instant recall and, for quite a while, need constantly to go back 
to the definition before the proper use of the term finally sinks in. 
Showidx helps them do that.

I was just puzzled by the conflict.

Exactly how does hyperref work in … a paperback? :-)
