[OS X TeX] Text area borders

For displaying a frame around the text area to check layout, there's  
also the showframe package:

\usepackage{showframe}

According to the geometry package documentation, the showframe  
package is now obsolete, as its functionality has been taken over by:

\usepackage[showframe]{geometry}
or
\usepackage{geometry}
\geometry{showframe}

But the showframe option of the geometry package seems to only want  
to show the frame on the first page.  So maybe the older standalone  
showframe package is still necessary.
