Perhaps, this might help:
\usepackage{geometry}
\geometry{a4paper,showframe}
The option "showframe" displays the rectangle where the text
is displayed into.
The documentation of this package is contained in
/usr/local/teTeX/share/texmf.tetex/doc/latex/geometry/geometry.pdf
