[OS X TeX] latex file compilation very very slow

You could try safe boot: restart your computer and, as soon as you  
hear the start-up chime, hold down the Shift key until you see the  
gray gear (or whatever is called) turning. Then wait for several  
minutes as your hard disk is been checked. Then the login panel will  
appear; log in and in the trash you'll see various cache files that  
correspond to you. Empty the trash and restart your computer. I think  
this should work.
