[OS X TeX] i-Installer download questions (problem?)

Now for something different.... ;)
Yesterday I was trying to use the "TeX+Ghostscript" option in
TeXShop (v2.09c) to process a LaTeX file that a co-author (Windows
user, all graphics in PS format) sent me. Upon attempting to
typeset, a sheet dropped down from TeXShop with the following message:
Can't find required tool.
/usr/local/teTeX/bin/powerpc-apple-darwin-current/simpdflatex does
not exist....
The message goes on to suggest (re)installing teTeX. Fine, I think,
I can do that. (My current installation is from about May, 2005, IINM.)
So I downloaded the latest version of the i-Installer (v2 2.78) from
SourceForge, installed it on my Mac, and tried to install TeX again.
First I got a message that read, in part:
Remote package is more recent.
The remote package is newer. Press Cancel to cancel the current
action, press Update to update and proceed or press Ignore to try to
go ahead anyway (not recommended).
Well, frankly, this dialog confused me a bit: I didn't want to
Cancel the installation, and since "Ignore" was not recommended
(why?), I chose "Update" merely by process of elimination. [I
presume -- but am not sure -- that "Ignore" uses the local .ii2
package and "Update" uses the remote one, but if so that could be
spelled out more definitively in the dialog window.] Note that I had
previously selected the Yale repository, as it's just down the road.
Shortly thereafter, I received another drop-down sheet asking me to
choose an "Install type?" Feeling adventurous (foolish?), I chose
"Expert". Then, not really knowing any better, I chose the "TeX Live
2005" option. But I doubt either of those choices are the source of
my problem....
After that, I waited... about a day (yes, I went home yesterday
afternoon and returned this morning)... and the installer still seems
to be running, as evidenced by the spinning pinwheel in the upper-
right-hand corner of the TeX i-Package window. Also, all the buttons
("Install & Configure", etc.) are greyed out.
I'm not really sure what to do at this point, so I have attached the
Status Messages that appear in the bottom text box in the TeX i-
Installer window:

And that's it -- the spinning pinwheel is still goin' strong.
(Note: this is the 12-spoked grey wheel, not the Spinning Pizza
(Beach Ball) of Death (tm).) Any suggestions? I'm loathe to quit
the i-Installer until I fully understand the consequences.
That said, I'm not sure anything has been installed: I just
processed a document in TeXShop using pdftex, and it ran fine... but
the beginning of the Console reads:
This is pdfeTeX, Version 3.141592-1.30.3-2.2 (Web2C 7.5.5)

entering extended mode

which suggests to me that teTeX and/or TeX Live 2003, and not 2005
(as selected) is (still) installed. Note that trying to process a
document with "TeX+Ghostscript" still returns the error at the start
of this message.
In case it matters, I am working on a PowerMac G5 with OS X 10.4.7
installed. Thanks in advance for any assistance!
