[OS X TeX] Can't find required tool

Did the easy way out: downloaded MacTeX20060314.dmg (Dobb's miror
site is just upstairs from me) and reinstalled it.
1. It works.
2. It is more up-to-date.
Problem solved.
But what went wrong?
