[OS X TeX] OS X TeX newbie needs help installing TeX on non-boot volume

I missed the start of this, so don't know if this was covered.

Is there a particular reason why (if I'm reading things correctly) the OP wants to replace:

	/usr/local/teTeX/
	
with a symbolic link to:

	/his/preferred/path/
	

rather than placing a symlink to:

	/usr/local/teTeX/
	
at/on:

	/his/preferred/path/
	
?

The latter seems easier and more immune to any flaky package specificity/dependency and is for most practical purposes, the same thing.
