Just a note to say that I don't think this is correct; my  
understanding is that Apple's implementation is unrelated to Adobe's.  
It's part of the Quartz2D graphics system, and I'd be surprised if  
Adobe contributed to that.

*Much* slower in some experiments I have tried. But YMMV -- probably  
depends on the nature of the documents.
