[OS X TeX] right place for a .map line

No, this place is for files created and maintained by updmap (or  
updmap-sys). Use instead, for example

     /usr/local/teTeX/share/texmf.local/fonts/map/dvips/

or

     /usr/local/teTeX/share/texmf.local/fonts/map/dvips/misc/

Compare e.g. with the structure of /usr/local/teTeX/share/texmf.tetex/ 
fonts/map/dvips/.
