I think there's actually no problem: in this and the related post  
"script fonts", you seem to consider that it's possible to use both  
mathptmx and mathpazo at the same time. That's not true: it's either  
one, or the other:

- mathptmx uses Times as the roman font (instead of CMR) and math  
fonts combining Times, Symbol and the CM math fonts.

- mathpazo uses Palatino as the roman font(instead of CMR) and math  
fonts combining Palatino, Symbol and the CM math fonts.

You've just got to choose which one you prefer. Each defines a  
specific calligraphic font as well (with \mathcal). More detail are  
given in /Library/teTeX/share/texmf.tetex/doc/latex/psnfss/psnfss2e.pdf.
