It's a known bug, and is still present in 0.88. The workaround is to 
ensure that extra_mem_bot (in texmf.cnf) is 0 for XeTeX, as noted by 
others on the list.

I've fixed the underlying problem in the XeTeX code, but haven't yet 
had time to put together a new release package, sorry. "Real work" gets 
in the way sometimes.... :(
