[OS X TeX] "local" files under Windows

I use MiKTeX on Windows. The local files are stored in localtexmf folder. The default location for it C:\localtexmf. You want to maintain the tex hierarchy. I store my tex files under localtexmf\tex\latex\, etc.

However, after you do that you will have to update the File Database (similar to texhash). You do that from MiKTeX Options ->General Tab -> Refresh Now button.
