Wouldn't be Linkback (http://www.linkbackproject.org/) offer a good
solution ? I was playing with your source code in order to implement
Linkback, but couldn't get it running. But it seems (eg from the
tutorial
(http://www.macdevcenter.com/pub/a/mac/2005/04/15/linkback.html)
that this should be easy to do for a person familiar with the code.
Since opening an Equation Service generated .pdf file already allows
to re-edit the tex source, it seems that the key ingredients are already
in place.
