[OS X TeX] Two BibTeX questions

I used the BibTeX that was a part of CMacTeX under OS9 for a long time,
but I have just started using it under OSX. I notice that whenever I
invoke it, whether from within Alphatx or from within CMacTeX itself,
that BibTeX complains that it has no .aux file. But the .aux file is
there. I notice in the log that it lists the input file with its base
name, but no extension (myfile, rather than myfile.aux, say). Has
anybody else had this problem. Do you have an idea what to do about it?

I have an installation of teTeX on my system which I have never used. I
seem to have a problem adding style files and bst files. In other TeX
installations all I had to do was to copy the proper files into the
proper directory. But that doesn't seem to do it here. What am I
missing?

with thanks for any suggestions,
John Burt
